A great restaurant for locally sourced game and meat. Very cosy and authentic rural atmosphere. Helpful and friendly staff, we were very well looked after. The food is very good quality but not outstanding, which you might expect considering the price. Some of us had the lamb sharer. Gorgeous meat and high quality veg, potatoes and yorkshires. However at that price I don't think the portions were generous enough. Shouldn't have to ask for more roast potatoes when you've paid £75 for a dish for two people. So do go! Enjoy this lovely restaurant, but it is slightly over priced for what it is.

We had a amazing lunch today at The pot kiln. After a little mistake in the kitchen and a lovely chat with the staff we came away wanting to visit again. The pot kiln is well worth a visit and we will be back.

Had an absolutely faultless lunch here last week. Setting is beautiful and we were made to feel completely at home by the team. The venison sharer is phenomenal (and huge!) so make sure you come hungry.

Decided to head out for dinner on a wet & windy Friday night in October, as fancied a night off from cookings and had a very nice lunch here back in October 22.
There were 6 of us in our party, 2 adults and our 4 children. I'd told the kids how great the venison was and how much I was looking forward to it!
We arrived (tried to book but no answer on the phone) and no issues getting a table as it was very quiet for a Friday night. I was a little surprised given a Friday.
We ordered 4 Vension and 2 Ducks which duly arrived. However, all of the vension dishes were cold, including the mash. We explained to our waitress and she said no problems she would get it rectified.
Dished came back and we tucked in again, but they were still luke warm. The vension was a lot more tough than on my last visit. I mentioned to our waitress that the food was still not hot.
We got some complementary french fries as kids loved them and they were hot unlike the mash.
To be fair the waitress apologised and said to make up for the cold vension / mash, she'd sorted free desserts for all of us, which was a nice gesture.
Desserts were very nice the ice cream profiteroles, kids and adults liked these a lot.
It would have got 5 stars had the main courses been hot. Annoying as I love the location of the place and the proper home cooked food.
Hopefully my experience was just a one off, but in these tough times for restaurants you need to be firing on all cylinders at all times. As were all feeling the pinch at the moment and a bad experience means we might not head back again.

Beautiful location. We had lunch while watching a beautiful green valley ahead of us. I had the best Sunday Roast ever! Plus the portions were huge and filling!

An amazing pub, tucked away, but serving delicious home cooked food. Service was superb as was the food. We arrived just in time as lunches were being stopped, shortly
Food & drinks: Great food made with local produce and good selection of alcohol

We went out for dinner on a Friday night. The pub was relatively quiet but the bar area was a bit noisy making the resturant quite echoey. One of us had brilliant food - crayfish cocktail and venison pave. The venison melted in the mouth and despite the generous portion could have eaten this for pudding too!
My husband's food wasn't as good, sausages were very "lamby" and not in a good way (he loves lamb), and the meat in the game pie was tough. We both went for the lemon tart/brulee which was lovely.
Service was spot on although the waitress suggested alcohol full beers when asked for alcohol free (there were no alcohol free beers).
All in we had a lovely evening, but the food was hit and miss.

Really enjoyed my stay. It’s a little out of the way, but worth it. A warm welcome, excellent food and service, a clean room with hot, powerful shower (important) and a good breakfast. Would recommend.
Rooms: Small but clean. Lots of plug sockets. Complimentary water. Great shower.

A hidden gem
The quality of the food is set by the fresh ingredients. Outstanding presentation and service. Breakfast was very good value all cooked to individual order.
Will definitely return. Highly recommended
